WAL (Jacob and Matthew Band)
For the past twelve years we have been known as the Jacob and Matthew Band, but through prayer and discernment we have decided to rename ourselves WAL. Moving into this new direction, we seriously discussed the question, “How does God see us?” In the end, our answer is quite simple. God sees all of us wonderfully made and wants us to know that we are loved!!
The Jacob and Matthew Band (Now WAL), playing contemporary Christian music, emerged in the early 2000s, serving as teens in their local parish. Throughout the years, their ministry and music has developed with age and experience. Today, WAL travels throughout the USA and internationally, carrying with them a vibrant, energetic sound that inspires people of all ages to praise and rejoice in the goodness of our Lord. The band is led by singers/songwriters Matthew and Michael Paul Leon, who serve the Church as full-time youth ministers and music ministers. Matthew and Michael Paul are joined by the talented and passionate composer/pianist, Mr. David Stanton; bass player, Derrick Wong; and drummer, Paul “Mack” VanDeRiet. “We don’t want our music to just be about entertaining people. We want to make a difference in people’s lives; to inspire and affirm, motivate, empower and challenge people to live in Christ.”
Blessed with the opportunity and privilege to gather with souls of all ages to share their prayer song, WAL seeks to connect with and inspire all whom they encounter through their ministry. Whether it’s ministering to millions at World Youth Day 2013 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a few thousand across the United States, or a handful of teenagers in their hometown, WAL encourages and challenges youth and adults alike to form a deeper relationship with Christ.
Having committed their lives to proclaiming the Gospel through a joyful witness of music, WAL has published three albums with World Library Publications. (www.wlpmusic.com, www.VoicesAsOne.com). The band has also composed theme songs for the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress and Youth Day. Universal, marked the band’s official debut and was followed by Every Day, their sophomore album in 2009. In 2011, the band released an EP titled Trust and is currently in the process of writing and recording their fourth studio offering that will be released at the end of 2014. It will consist of a collection of music for the Church in the context of the Liturgy but will also provide listeners with praise and prayer for the home or for fellowship in all areas.
